Navigating Dubai: How a VPN Made My Trip Smoother and More Connected

By Jordan Mills

When I planned my recent trip to Dubai, I was excited about everything the city had to offer: its towering skyscrapers, luxury shopping, and the unique blend of traditional and modern cultures. But before leaving, I learned that Dubai has some pretty strict internet regulations, with popular websites, social media, and even VoIP services sometimes restricted. So, I decided to invest in a VPN to keep my usual apps and streaming services accessible. I figured it would be a nice-to-have—turns out, it was essential!

Arrival and First Impressions

The moment I arrived in Dubai, I was blown away by the city’s energy. The Burj Khalifa was even more breathtaking in person, and the mix of new and old architecture had me reaching for my camera constantly. But that evening, when I settled into my hotel, I quickly realized how restricted my internet options were. My favorite messaging and calling apps wouldn’t work, and even a few websites I rely on seemed blocked. I was so relieved I had my VPN ready to go!

Unlocking My Usual Streaming Services

One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to unwind at night with a good show, especially after a long day of sightseeing. But many of the streaming platforms I use are restricted in the UAE. Luckily, with my VPN, I connected to a server back home and immediately had access to my usual lineup. It was seamless—I enjoyed my favorite series with zero buffering, and it was the perfect way to recharge for another day of exploring.

Staying Connected with Family and Friends

Staying in touch with loved ones was my top priority, and without a VPN, I would have been stuck relying on alternative apps I rarely use. I had planned to use FaceTime and WhatsApp to make calls home, but they didn’t work over the local internet. Thankfully, my VPN allowed me to make calls smoothly by connecting to a region where these apps weren’t restricted. The calls were clear, and being able to send updates and photos to my friends and family made my trip feel a lot more connected and comfortable.

A Glimpse Into Local Life

While my VPN kept me connected to home, I made sure to spend my days fully immersed in Dubai’s culture. I explored the traditional souks, rode an abra on the Dubai Creek, and sampled authentic Emirati dishes at local restaurants. Each evening, after a full day of experiencing Dubai’s vibrant culture, I’d return to my hotel and unwind by streaming a movie or catching up on social media—all thanks to my VPN. It was like I had the best of both worlds.

Final Thoughts

My trip to Dubai was unforgettable, and having a VPN made it even better. From bypassing content restrictions to staying connected with friends and family, it was a small investment that made a huge difference. If you’re planning a trip to Dubai or anywhere with restricted internet access, I can’t recommend a VPN enough. It’s a travel essential that brings convenience, comfort, and a little slice of home, no matter where you are.

Happy travels!

My Journey in the UAE: How a VPN Made All the Difference

By Alex Johnson

As an avid traveler, I recently had the opportunity to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a country known for its stunning architecture, luxurious lifestyle, and vibrant culture. However, I was also aware of the strict internet regulations and content restrictions in place. To ensure a seamless experience, I decided to invest in a VPN service before my trip. Little did I know how crucial this decision would turn out to be!

Arrival in the UAE

Upon landing in Dubai, I was immediately captivated by the city’s impressive skyline, dominated by the Burj Khalifa. But as I settled into my hotel, I remembered the warnings I had heard about internet censorship in the UAE. Many popular services and websites, such as social media platforms, VoIP calls, and certain streaming sites, are either restricted or limited. I felt a sense of unease; would I be able to access the content I loved during my stay?

The VPN Experience

As soon as I checked into my hotel, I quickly set up my VPN. With a few simple clicks, I was connected to a server in my home country. Instantly, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. Not only could I access my favorite streaming services, but I could also make video calls to friends and family without worrying about any restrictions.

Bypassing Restrictions with Ease

During my trip, I wanted to keep up with my favorite shows on a streaming platform that is typically blocked in the UAE. Thanks to my VPN, I was able to bypass these restrictions effortlessly. I settled into my hotel room one evening, equipped with popcorn and a cozy blanket, and started binge-watching the latest season of my favorite series. It felt like I had brought a piece of home with me, no censorship in sight!

Staying Connected

Beyond entertainment, the VPN proved invaluable for staying connected. I often rely on apps like WhatsApp and FaceTime to communicate with loved ones back home. With my VPN running, I was able to make crystal-clear calls and send messages without any interruptions. This made my experience in the UAE feel much less isolating, even while navigating a foreign country.

Exploring the Local Culture

While I enjoyed my online activities, I also wanted to immerse myself in the local culture. During the day, I explored the bustling markets of Dubai, marveled at the beauty of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and indulged in delicious local cuisine. But every evening, I returned to my hotel room to relax and unwind with my favorite shows, all thanks to my trusty VPN.

Conclusion

My trip to the UAE was nothing short of extraordinary, and my VPN played a significant role in enhancing my experience. From bypassing content restrictions to staying connected with friends and family, it transformed what could have been a frustrating travel experience into one filled with joy and comfort.

For anyone planning to visit the UAE or any country with strict internet regulations, I wholeheartedly recommend using a VPN. It not only provides access to your favorite content but also grants peace of mind, knowing you can stay connected and entertained throughout your journey.

Happy travels!

Whatsapp in UAE and Saudi Arabia

VPN for Whatsapp

Whatsapp remains one of the most popular apps for sending messages and making calls. It is widely available throughout the world with a few exceptions. Saudi Arabia and the UAE are two countries that block the use of Whatsapp for calls.

Those who have encountered this block may be able to use a VPN for Whatsapp video call features. Let’s take a look at the Whatsapp VPN solution and how it can restore your access to Whatsapp in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Is WhatsApp Really Unavailable in Dubai and Saudi Arabia?

The block for Whatsapp in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other areas of the UAE is not a complete ban. The messaging features of Whatsapp are available. It is the ability to make calls that is restricted. Why is this so?

The answer lies in the telecommunications duopoly that exists in the UAE. By government mandate there are only two telecommunications providers that are authorized to provide call service to the country. No other providers are permitted.

This duopoly allows Dubai to exercise some strict control over its telecommunications services. Some would also argue that it also makes it much easier to monitor call service. The ban goes back to 2016 and also affects some other VoIP services like Skype.

In Saudi Arabia the situation can be a little more complex. As recently as 2017 the kingdom relaxed some of its restrictions on VoIP calling services. It has since reverted to a harsher stance.

Using a VPN for Whatsapp Call Features in Saudi Arabia and the UAE

The reason that a Whatsapp block is problematic for many people is that both the UAE and Saudi Arabia host many expats and other foreign visitors. These individuals need a reliable way to contact their relatives at home. VoIP services like Whatsapp offer them an inexpensive option for making costly international calls.

The VPN Whatsapp hack is something most expats know about. If you are someone that has never visited the Dubai or Saudi Arabia, the time to consider a VPN is now. Don’t wait until you arrive in the country because you may find it difficult to access some VPN provider websites.

This is how it works. When you use a VPN to connect to Whatsapp, the app recognizes the VPN server that you are using to determine your location. If you connect to a server in a country where Whatsapp calling is allowed, you will be able to use the app to make calls in Dubai.

Most reputable VPN providers have hundreds of server locations. You can probably find one from your home country. The additional benefit of using a VPN for Whatsapp access is that you also have more security.

VPNs offer an encrypted connection that helps to keep your data safe from prying eyes. You can also use the same VPN to watch your local news content, and a VPN can be used to stream Netflix or other popular media services that may not be available in the places you are visiting.

The Best VPN for Whatsapp Calling in Dubai

There are a few things to consider before you choose a VPN to use with Whatsapp in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. You will want to make sure your chosen VPN ticks all of the boxes we will mention below.

Oh, something else to consider. If you are thinking about using one of the so-called free VPNs, be wary. Many of these VPNs are known to deliver spyware. You could be defeating the very purpose of using a VPN in the first place.

First of all, you need a VPN that has adequate speed to make calls. There can generally be a little drop off in speed when connecting to a VPN but this should be slight. If the speed is too slow, you will experience dropped calls and poor quality.

You also need a VPN that offers plenty of server locations to choose from. You always want to have the most options available.

Finally, your VPN should be committed to your security and privacy. This means using a VPN that does not log your activity.

VPNAccounts offers affordable and reliable VPN service that meets all of these requirements. We encourage you to check out the VPN plans that we offer today.

UAE Internet & how to Bypass Internet Restrictions with a VPN

The UAE, or United Arab Emirates, is one of the most affluent territories in the Arab region. As such, it is a region where the great majority of citizens have Internet access. Recent statistics have shown that 70% of the UAE’s population subscribe to one of the two Internet services offered in the UAE. Despite this deep penetration, the UAE is also one of the most restrictive nations in the region. Web activity is heavily monitored and many websites are blocked in UAE  by the agency which regulates online access. Many people visit Dubai and enjoy a range of  tourist attractions in UAE.

History of the UAE

The UAE is actually a group of seven principalities, or emirates, which are each ruled by a hereditary emir. One emir is then elected to preside over the entire federation as a whole. Islam is the official religion of the UAE, and, as such, dictates much of the policy which is made by the federation.

Prior to 1962, the UAE was little more than a vast spot in the desert. The discovery of huge oil reserves, however, made the UAE one of the richest nations in the Arab region. The emirates boast the seventh-largest oil reserve in the world, and the cities of the UAE are highly developed. The per capita income of the UAE is also the seventh-largest in the world.

Internet in the UAE

For a very long time there was only one, state-owned ISP in the UAE. This monopoly was broken by the introduction of a second ISP in February of 2006. The telecommunications company du was authorized to provide Internet access, and a large majority of the UAE uses du & etisalat as an ISP. This might seem like an attempt by the UAE to become more moderate in its regulation of Internet access, but this is just an illusion. The new ISP still answers to the government and follows the common regulatory practices of the region.

One notable difference regarding Internet access in the UAE is that more homes have Internet due to the overall affluence of the country. The Internet Café, popular in so many of the Arab territories, does exist in the UAE, but more people choose to use the Internet in the privacy of their own home.

Internet Filtering in the UAE

Both of the ISP’s in the UAE use a sophisticated system to block websites which are considered pervasive or violate the moral standards of the country. In addition to outright blocking, the UAE also engages in selective censorship to restrict access to certain parts of discussion boards or news sites.

At the present time, these are a few of the types of websites which are blocked in the UAE:

  • Most Israeli domains. The long-standing conflict between the Arab region and Israel prompts the UAE to use blanket restriction on most websites originating in Israel.
  • Some parts of Wikipedia. This is a case where the UAE uses selective filtering.
  • VoIP networks similar to Skype. These communications networks are not easily monitored by the State and are also a threat to the nation’s telecom revenue.
  • Gay, Lesbian, and pornographic websites. These kinds of sites are considered a violation of the moral values associated with Islam. Adult sites include xvideos, Tube8, redTube, xHamster, YouJizz, youPorn, megaporn etc
  • Dating sites. All dating sites similar to Yahoo Personals and Match.com are in accessible in the UAE. A strong sense of family values is associated with Islam, and therefore many of these websites are deemed objectionable. Other sites include GuySpy, Homorazzi, Advocate, OhLaLa. LesbianMingles, Girlsmingle, BlackGirlMatch, LesPassion

Unblocking websites in UAE

Using a public network to access the Internet in the UAE can be risky if you attempt to access blocked websites. The only genuine way to unblock restricted websites in the UAE is by using a VPN account like the one offered here.

A VPN is very effective in allowing Internet users to access Skype, Whatsapp, Viber, and a host of other services like Netflix, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer which are not available in the UAE. A VPN gives you an added level of security in addition to making these websites available, and that added security is something you will not find on public networks in the UAE.
