This is the UAE-specific troubleshooting router. The general VPN Not Working guide covers the same core checks anywhere in the world; this page focuses on differences among Etisalat, du, home broadband, cellular service, and managed UAE Wi-Fi.
UAE VPN symptom router
| Symptom | Likely layer | Next test | Deeper guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fails on Etisalat but works on du | Network path or provider difference | Repeat on the same device, server, and option | Etisalat connection fixes |
| Works on mobile data, not Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi, captive portal, router, or ISP path | Complete portal; compare one variable at a time | Mobile-versus-Wi-Fi isolation |
| VPN will not establish | Underlying internet, client, server, or connection option | Verify browsing; reconnect; test another current server | General tunnel troubleshooting |
| VPN connects, but a site remains blocked | Destination, DNS, browser, account, or route | Use a fresh session and test another appropriate server | UAE blocked-sites guide |
| Browsing works, but calls do not | Real-time voice/video, permissions, app, or telecom context | Check the exact app state and compare networks | Discord, Telegram, or FaceTime |
| Website or download will not open | Site, DNS, browser, store, network, or account | Compare official page on cellular and Wi-Fi | UAE download and setup help |
First separate internet access from VPN access
Disconnect the VPN and open two ordinary websites. If they fail, the first problem is the underlying connection, captive portal, signal, or local outage. On hotel and public Wi-Fi, open a browser and complete any sign-in or terms page before reconnecting the VPN.
If ordinary browsing works, record what the VPN does:
- No tunnel: the client remains on Connecting or returns an error.
- Tunnel, no traffic: the client says connected, but no page loads.
- Partial access: ordinary pages load but one site or app feature does not.
- Poor performance: traffic passes but latency, calls, or downloads are unusable.
Those are different support cases. Do not erase a useful error by changing the server, protocol, app, DNS, and device all at once.
Compare Etisalat, du, broadband, and mobile data
Use the same device, VPN account, server, and connection option for the comparison. If the setup succeeds on du mobile data but fails on Etisalat home broadband, the difference makes the network path worth investigating. It does not prove deliberate action by either provider.
The reverse comparison can occur too. A specific mobile route may be congested while home broadband is healthy. Hotel, workplace, school, and apartment networks can impose their own portal or firewall behavior in addition to the internet provider.
If the VPN will not establish
After confirming ordinary browsing, close and reopen the VPN client. Test another current server before changing connection options. If the server change makes no difference, try another option the product actually supports: WireGuard, OpenVPN, or IKEv2/IPsec, subject to client, platform, and server availability.
L2TP/IPsec and PPTP are legacy compatibility options, not normal first choices. VLESS is a separate manual configuration available on selected servers. Stealth is available on supported desktop VPNclient applications and is a reasonable test when an ordinary VPN connection struggles; it is not guaranteed on every network.
If it connects but no traffic passes
Wait long enough for the connection state to settle, then open a new browser tab. If nothing loads, disconnect and confirm the underlying connection still works. Reconnect to another current server. A tunnel icon alone does not prove that traffic is moving through the intended route.
If browsing resumes but only one destination remains unavailable, move to destination troubleshooting. The service may use account country, app-store region, cookies, payment details, GPS/device signals, or VPN-address detection in addition to the visible IP address.
When the connection becomes extremely slow
Measure the non-VPN connection first. Then use one nearby appropriate VPN location and repeat the same activity. A distant server can add latency; congestion or packet loss can harm voice/video before ordinary browsing looks broken.
Change one item, retest, and keep the faster stable result. If every server is slow only on one network, the network path deserves attention. If one server is slow everywhere, report that server to Support rather than treating the UAE network as the cause.
When browsing works but a calling app does not
Messaging, websites, and real-time calls are different traffic layers. A working VPN webpage test does not guarantee Discord voice, Telegram calls, FaceTime, or WhatsApp calling. Check app permissions, the exact call state, service status, and whether the call behaves differently on Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Use the dedicated guide for Discord voice errors, Telegram voice or video calls, FaceTime availability and calls, or the existing WhatsApp calling guide.
App or account problem versus network problem
If the same failure follows the account to every device and network, investigate the account or service. If another account works on the same device, that is another account signal. If the same account works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, investigate the network path. If no app can reach the internet, return to the underlying connection.
Avoid repeated sign-in, payment, or identity attempts while rapidly changing countries. Those actions can trigger security systems and make the original network diagnosis harder.
When to contact VPN-Accounts.com Support
Contact Support after you can provide the device and operating system, UAE network type, current server, connection option if known, exact error, and the result on another network. Do not send your password, payment-card details, private keys, or other credentials.
Support can help isolate a configuration, server, or route problem. It cannot verify an ISP policy from one report, change a third-party service, or guarantee UAE access.
Useful answers
Frequently asked questions
Why has my VPN stopped working in the UAE?
The cause may be the current network, a VPN server or connection option, the device, the account, or the destination service. Confirm ordinary browsing, record the exact symptom, compare Wi-Fi with mobile data, and change one variable at a time.
Does a failed VPN connection prove that VPNs are blocked in the UAE?
No. One failed connection does not establish a nationwide block or a particular provider policy. Outages, captive portals, router behavior, server problems, device settings, and service-side rules can produce similar symptoms.
What should I try first on Etisalat or du?
Verify the underlying connection, reconnect, test another current server, then try another supported connection option. Compare the same device on Wi-Fi and mobile data before drawing a conclusion about the provider.
Why does the VPN connect while a website or call still fails?
A tunnel can be established while the destination uses other account, app, device, DNS, payment, location, or real-time traffic rules. Calling quality can also fail because of latency or packet loss even when browsing works.
Can VPN-Accounts.com guarantee access in the UAE?
No. Network and third-party behavior can change, and a VPN does not override account requirements, app availability, telecom rules, platform terms, or local law.
