Installing a VPN client and buying VPN access are different steps. If you already have OpenVPN Connect, you still need a compatible connection profile and access to a VPN service. Downloading the app does not automatically provide a VPN-Accounts.com account.
VPN-Accounts.com offers manual OpenVPN and WireGuard configuration through the customer dashboard. This can suit buyers who want to use a compatible third-party client instead of relying only on the standard VPNClient app.
An OpenVPN profile, an account and a server are not the same thing
Replacing a provider that no longer offers the protocol you need? Our OpenVPN switching guide for Mullvad users covers compatibility checks and moving to a fresh profile without assuming the providers have identical features.
The account provides your entitlement to use the service. An OpenVPN profile tells the client how to connect. A server is the endpoint that connection reaches. Your profile may also require the VPN credentials supplied for your account.
OpenVPN’s own documentation explains that OpenVPN Connect imports a connection profile supplied by a VPN provider or an administrator. Buying access from VPN-Accounts.com is not the same as buying an OpenVPN enterprise server licence.
Avoid buying a random “config file” without checking who operates the service, when access expires and where support comes from. A file on its own does not establish those things.
Which manual option fits your device?
Choose OpenVPN when your intended client or device requires an .ovpn profile. Choose WireGuard when you have a compatible WireGuard client and want to use that configuration method. The formats are not interchangeable: changing a filename does not convert one protocol into another.
WireGuard uses a different configuration and key-based connection model. Its official documentation describes peer and key configuration; you do not need to build that configuration from scratch when using a provider’s supported download process.
For a router or specialist device, check the exact model and firmware before buying. A menu labelled “VPN” does not establish support for the profile you need, and the presence of a VPN server feature is not proof that the device can act as your VPN client.
How the VPN-Accounts.com dashboard fits in
After receiving active account access, sign in to the customer dashboard. The OpenVPN section lets you choose a server and port and download an OpenVPN configuration. Import it into your compatible client and follow the setup instructions for that device.
The dashboard also has a separate WireGuard configuration section. Keep downloaded profiles private: configurations can contain sensitive connection information. Do not upload them to public troubleshooting forums or send someone an unredacted screenshot of their contents.
Manual setup does not automatically inherit every control in the standard app. DNS handling, reconnect behaviour and traffic blocking when a tunnel drops depend on the chosen client and configuration. Check those controls before relying on a manual connection for sensitive activity.
What does the account cost?
The monthly subscription is $7 today, then $7/month until canceled. If you prefer a fixed period without automatic renewal, one month of prepaid crypto access costs $7 in USD before applicable payment fees. Both options include up to 10 simultaneous connections and access to the same VPN service.
Before purchasing, decide which device and client you will use, whether it needs OpenVPN or WireGuard, and which location you require. If any of those details are uncertain, ask Support before paying rather than guessing that every configuration will fit.
Already have a compatible client? Choose an account, then use the dashboard’s supported configuration download for your setup. The qualified 30-day money-back guarantee applies under the published refund terms.
