Adult websites are actively restricted on Thai internet connections, and the filtering is not limited to a single famous website.
Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society reported in June 2026 that authorities had blocked more than 20,000 URLs associated specifically with obscene or pornographic media. Independent network measurements have also identified major adult destinations including Pornhub, XVideos, YouPorn and xHamster among confirmed blocked sites on tested Thai networks.
A critical practical point is that the same destination can behave differently depending on the Thai ISP, mobile connection, hotel Wi-Fi or other network.
For the broader country-by-country directory and shared privacy limits, see the adult website access hub.
Quick answer: Are porn sites blocked in Thailand?
Yes. On June 8, 2026, Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society reported that more than 20,000 URLs related to obscene or pornographic media had been blocked.
That specific figure should not be confused with much larger Thai blocking totals dominated by gambling and other categories. It is the adult/obscene-media figure relevant to this guide.
Is Pornhub blocked in Thailand?
Pornhub and roughly 190 other adult websites were publicly blocked in November 2020. More recent iMAP/OONI measurements have continued to identify Pornhub as a confirmed blocked domain on multiple tested Thai networks.
Current results may still differ by ISP, network and time. A block page, DNS response and website-side regional notice mean different things, so this guide does not maintain a permanent all-provider list.
What other adult websites have been found blocked?
Independent measurements have also identified XVideos, YouPorn and xHamster, along with other pornography-category domains. These observations establish confirmed network blocking during tested periods. They do not guarantee that every Thai ISP returns the same result forever.
No destination links are provided here; the names are included only to explain the research record.
How does Thailand block websites?
Independent iMAP/OONI research identified DNS tampering as the primary observed website-blocking method in Thailand, with some HTTP interference also detected.
DNS converts a domain name into a network address. A manipulated response can point the device toward a block page or prevent it from receiving the destination’s normal address. HTTP interference can affect an unencrypted web request more directly. Modern HTTPS changes what an intermediary can read, but it does not prevent every form of connection or name-resolution interference.
The blocked-website guide gives a wider diagnostic sequence.
Thailand has a recognizable block-page or network fingerprint
Censorship researchers can identify known block pages or network endpoints as fingerprints. When an OONI test receives a response associated with that fingerprint instead of the expected website result, the measurement can be classified with greater confidence than a generic timeout alone.
This matters because a timeout may also be congestion, an outage, a broken CDN path or a destination rejecting an IP. A recognizable censorship response narrows the cause.
Why adult sites can behave differently between Thai networks
- Home broadband and mobile carriers may use different resolvers and filtering systems.
- A hotel can add its own content policy above the ISP’s controls.
- Providers may update blocklists at different times.
- A workplace, family or public-network policy can be more restrictive than the underlying connection.
- The website can separately reject an IP, account, browser state or device.
Use a same device + different permitted network comparison. If the exact destination and browser work on mobile but not Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi path is the stronger lead. If the same account fails everywhere, investigate the destination or account state.
Bangkok hotel Wi-Fi can add another layer
This is not only a Bangkok issue. Travellers in Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya can see the same distinction between accommodation Wi-Fi and mobile data. A captive portal, hotel firewall or family-safe policy may cause a result that is stricter than another Thai network.
Connect to the hotel portal first, note the exact error, and compare a normal permitted destination before changing several variables at once.
Does changing DNS unblock porn sites in Thailand?
DNS tampering is relevant in Thailand, so another resolver may change some DNS-specific failures. It is not a universal solution. The network may use another interference method, and the website can still apply regional, account, age, cookie, IP-reputation or device controls.
VPN vs changing DNS in Thailand
Changing DNS selects a different naming resolver. A VPN creates an encrypted connection between the device and VPN server, changes the network route, and normally replaces the public IP visible to destinations. They are not equivalent.
A VPN does not change age, account identity, GPS, cookies, payment identity, platform rules or applicable law. It does not guarantee that a destination will accept the VPN address.
Which VPN location should someone physically in Thailand use?
VPN-Accounts has a current Bangkok location documented in the Thailand VPN guide. Use Thailand when a Thai IP is specifically wanted.
If diagnosing whether a restriction is tied to a Thai connection or IP, test an appropriate outside route. Singapore is a confirmed nearby first comparison. The current server location directory should always be used instead of an old hostname list.
Thai law and pornographic content
Thailand’s Computer Crime Act contains provisions addressing putting pornographic computer data into a system where it is accessible to the public and knowingly disseminating or forwarding covered material. Publishing, distributing or forwarding material can raise different legal questions from merely diagnosing why a website is unavailable.
For general VPN setup, use the current device guides. For the limits of VPN visibility, read Can ISPs detect VPN usage?.

Frequently asked questions
Are porn sites blocked in Thailand?
Yes. Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society reported in June 2026 that authorities had blocked more than 20,000 URLs related specifically to obscene or pornographic media.
Is Pornhub blocked in Thailand?
Pornhub was among roughly 191 adult sites publicly blocked in November 2020 and has continued to appear in independent confirmed-blocking measurements. Results can vary by ISP, network and time.
Are XVideos and xHamster blocked in Thailand?
Independent iMAP/OONI research has identified XVideos and xHamster, along with YouPorn and Pornhub, among adult domains blocked on tested Thai networks. That is measurement evidence, not a permanent universal list.
How does Thailand block adult sites?
Independent research identified DNS tampering as the main observed technique in tested periods, with some HTTP interference and recognizable block-page fingerprints.
Why does Pornhub work on one Thai connection but not another?
Home broadband, mobile carriers, hotels and public Wi-Fi may implement filtering differently or add local policies. The destination may also treat IPs, accounts or devices differently.
Can changing DNS fix a Thai adult-site block?
It can affect a DNS-specific problem, but it is not universal. Other network interference and website-side restrictions can remain.
Should I use a Thailand server or an outside server for testing?
Use Thailand when a Thai IP is required. To test whether a restriction follows a Thai connection or IP, compare an appropriate outside route; Singapore is a confirmed nearby option.
